2027 leave hack: turn 8 days of leave into 31 days off
Where to put your 2027 annual leave in Singapore for the most time off: the exact days to apply for around every long weekend, and what 1 to 14 days of leave get you.
The trick is the same every year: a leave day is worth the most when it sits between a public holiday and a weekend, because it joins them into one long break. Here’s where those gaps are in 2027, and exactly which days to apply for.
How the 2027 public holidays fall
Singapore has 11 gazetted public holidays in 2027. Three of them, Chinese New Year, Labour Day and Christmas Day, land on a Saturday, so they don’t add a weekday off (if Saturday is your off day, you’re owed a replacement day or a day’s pay). Chinese New Year’s second day falls on a Sunday, so Monday 8 February is the holiday in lieu. New Year’s Day, Friday 1 January, makes a free three-day weekend, but the leave that stretches it comes out of December 2026, so it’s at the end of this guide.
The rest give you six breaks from Chinese New Year to Deepavali, before you take a single day of leave:
- Chinese New Year: 3 days off, Sat 6 – Mon 8 Feb
- Hari Raya Puasa: a midweek day off, Wed 10 Mar
- Good Friday: 3 days off, Fri 26 – Sun 28 Mar
- Hari Raya Haji & Vesak Day: 4 days off, Sat 15 – Mon 17 May + Thu 20 May
- National Day: 3 days off, Sat 7 – Mon 9 Aug
- Deepavali: a midweek day off, Thu 28 Oct
That’s 15 days off for free. The midweek holidays, Hari Raya Puasa on a Wednesday and Vesak Day and Deepavali on Thursdays, are where leave works hardest.
What each extra day of leave buys
Each row below is the best possible plan for that many leave days across those six breaks, worked out by the same maths as our leave planner. “Days off” counts every day of each break, weekends included.

The big jumps come from bridges. One day of leave on Friday 29 October turns Deepavali into a four-day weekend. Three days fill the gaps between Hari Raya Haji and Vesak Day. After 8 days, most extra leave days add a single day off, with the odd jump when another nine-day break opens up.

The 2027 long weekends, one by one
Chinese New Year
The first day of Chinese New Year is Saturday 6 February and the second is a Sunday, so Monday 8 February is off in lieu: three days with no leave. Four days of leave after it, Tuesday 9 to Friday 12 February, make it nine. Much of the region celebrates too, so if you’re travelling, read where to go over Chinese New Year 2027.

Questions
How many public holidays does Singapore have in 2027?
11. Chinese New Year, Labour Day and Christmas Day fall on a Saturday, and the second day of Chinese New Year falls on a Sunday, so Monday 8 February 2027 is a public holiday in lieu.
What is the best long weekend to take leave for in 2027?
Hari Raya Haji & Vesak Day in May. Taking Tue 18 May, Wed 19 May, Fri 21 May (3 days of leave) gives you 9 days off in a row, Sat 15 – Sun 23 May. For the least leave, take Friday 29 October: one day turns Deepavali into a four-day weekend.
How many days off can I get with 14 days of leave in 2027?
39, if all 14 go next to public holidays: 5 for Chinese New Year, 4 for Hari Raya Puasa, 4 for Good Friday and 1 for Deepavali. With no leave at all, the long weekends give you 15.
Do Saturday public holidays give me a day off?
Not automatically. Chinese New Year, Labour Day and Christmas Day are Saturdays in 2027 and there is no Monday in lieu. If Saturday is your off day and you are covered by the Employment Act, your employer must give you another day off or an extra day's pay instead.
When should I apply for leave?
At least six weeks ahead, and earlier for Chinese New Year and the Hari Raya Haji and Vesak week, when many colleagues will want the same days. Our calendar files add a reminder six weeks before each long weekend.
Holiday dates come from MOM's gazetted list, and the leave maths and rankings are worked out the same way as on our long-weekend pages. Updated 17 Oct 2026.
