Where to go

How far can you go on a long weekend from Singapore?

Three days, four or nine: which destinations fit each, with everything plotted by travel time from Singapore, and the long weekends where one day of leave buys the extra day.

Most Singapore long weekends give you three days for free, and a day or two of leave stretches them further. The question is how much of that time goes on getting there. This map puts every destination we cover at its travel time from Singapore: each ring is an hour.

Three days: no leave on most long weekends

Three days is enough for anywhere on this list. Our minimum trip lengths come from the journey and how much there is to do, which is why Kuala Lumpur works in two days while Penang and Langkawi deserve three, despite the short flight. Johor Bahru, Batam, Bintan and Melaka need no flight at all (more on those).

Four days: one day of leave

Hong Kong (3h 50m) and Taipei (4h 35m) are far enough that a three-day weekend loses too much to travel, and Da Nang & Hoi An (2h 45m) is two places in one. One day of leave fixes that, and these long weekends turn into four days with a single leave day:

Deepavali 2027 suits Hong Kong and Taipei best: it’s a Thursday, so one day of leave makes four days off, and October is one of the best months in both.

Nine or ten days: two places in one trip

Four or five days of leave turn most long weekends into nine or ten days off. That’s time for two hops: Penang and Langkawi, Bangkok and Phuket, or Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang. The best value is Hari Raya Haji & Vesak Day, where three days of leave give you nine days off:

Questions

Where can I fly from Singapore in under two hours?

Kuala Lumpur (1h), Langkawi (1h 20m), Penang (1h 25m), Phuket (1h 50m) and Ho Chi Minh City (2h), going by typical direct flight times.

Is three days enough for Bali?

Yes, just. The flight is about 2h 35m each way, which leaves enough time for a short stay, though a fourth day makes it far more relaxed.

How many days do I need for Hong Kong or Taipei?

Four, in our view. Hong Kong is about 3h 50m away and Taipei about 4h 35m, so a three-day weekend loses too much to travel.
