Privacy policy

Short version: we don't set cookies or run ads, and our own stats can't tell who you are. The only outside script is one from our affiliate network Travelpayouts, and it runs on the homepage only. The details are below.

Holiday Hops ("we", "us") runs holidayhops.com from Singapore. This policy explains how we handle personal data under Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA).

What we collect

Server logs

Like every website, our web server records each request it receives: your IP address, the page you asked for, the time, the page that linked you here, and your browser's user-agent string. We use these logs to keep the site running and secure, and to fix broken links. They're deleted after 14 days.

Visitor statistics

We count visits with our own small, cookieless analytics. When a page loads, it tells our server the page address, the site that sent you (if any), and any campaign tags in the link. We work out your device type and browser from the user-agent string.

To count unique visitors without cookies, we combine your IP address and user-agent with a random value that changes every day, and scramble the result. We throw the daily value away after two days, so after that nobody, including us, can link that scrambled ID back to you or to your visits on other days. We never store your IP address in our statistics. Nothing is saved on your device.

Affiliate links

Some links go to booking sites such as Klook, Agoda, Trip.com or Airalo, through an address starting with /go/. We count these clicks the same way as page views. When you arrive on the booking site, that site or its affiliate network (for example Involve Asia, Travelpayouts, Agoda Partners or Impact) may set its own cookies to record that we referred you. Their privacy policies apply from that point on.

If you book, the network tells us that a sale happened and what commission we earned. It doesn't give us your name, contact details or payment details. See how we make money.

Travelpayouts script (homepage only)

Our homepage loads a small script from Travelpayouts, one of our affiliate networks (served from emrld.ltd). It confirms to Travelpayouts that we run this site. Your browser connects to Travelpayouts' servers to load it, so they receive your IP address, browser details and the page address, and may set their own cookies. No other page loads it. Email

If you email us, we use your address and message only to reply, and delete them when the conversation is over unless we need them to deal with a complaint. If we offer email reminders and you sign up, we keep your address with our email provider only to send them. Every email has an unsubscribe link.

Content from other sites

• The Causeway Live page loads traffic camera images straight from the Singapore Government'sdata.gov.sg, so that request goes from your browser to their servers.
• Our fonts are hosted on our own server, so loading a page doesn't contact Google or any other font service.
• If you subscribe to one of our calendar feeds, your calendar app downloads it from our server now and then. Those downloads appear in our server logs like any other request.

What we don't do

• We don't set cookies ourselves, or use your browser's local storage to track you.
• We don't use Google Analytics, advertising pixels or social media trackers.
• We don't sell, rent or trade personal data.
• We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13.

Who handles the data

Our server is run by a cloud hosting provider and may be located outside Singapore. Where data leaves Singapore, we make sure it's protected to a standard comparable to the PDPA. Apart from that provider, any email provider we use for reminders, and what the Travelpayouts script on the homepage collects directly, nobody else receives data from us.

Your rights

Under the PDPA you can ask what personal data we hold about you and how we've used it, ask us to correct it, and withdraw consent to us using it. Because our statistics can't identify you, in practice this covers emails you've sent us and any reminder sign-up. We'll reply within 30 days.
