How Budget Hop works

Every trip is priced three ways: Shoestring (budget hotel or guesthouse, hawker stalls and street food), Mid-range (3–4 star hotel, casual restaurants) and Comfort (4–5 star hotel, nicer restaurants). Each trip gets the most comfortable level your budget covers. When even a shoestring trip is tight, paid tours give way to cheaper or free ways to see the same places.

The levels don't have to match. If the money stretches to a better hotel but not better restaurants, you get the better hotel and hawker food, and each trip shows what the same plan costs at every level. Set an amount for each category instead, and each is matched on its own. Anything you leave out of the budget is still shown, greyed out, so you know the full cost.

Not tied to one weekend? Choose Any long weekend and say how much leave you can take: you'll see what your budget buys on every long weekend still ahead, and can open any of them.

What each category covers

  • Flights & ferries: the return trip from Singapore by plane, ferry, coach or train. Two-stop trips fly into one place and home from the other, plus the hop between them.
  • Hotels: one room for every two travellers, for every night away.
  • Attractions: the paid tickets and tours in the day-by-day plan, per person.
  • Food: three meals a day and the odd snack, at the level the budget allows.
  • Local transport: trains, Grab or a driver while you're there, and airport or ferry-terminal transfers.
  • Other expenses: an eSIM, travel insurance, arrival charges such as Bali's tourist levy, and S$5–20 a day each for tips, drinks and small extras.

How rough are the numbers?

They're typical prices for long-weekend dates booked a few weeks ahead, last checked on 19 Oct 2026, not live fares. Your own dates with no public holiday or long school break in them are priced about 15% lower for travel and 10% lower for rooms. School holidays can cost more. Use them to see what's realistic, then check the live prices through the links on each trip before you book.

Short on leave rather than money? The leave planner works out where your leave days buy the most time off, and everylong weekend page ranks where to go for its dates.
